Consultations

Sydney Gastroenterology offers consulting services for patients with a variety of gastrointestinal or hepatological conditions, some of which are more complex than others.

A patient may be scheduled for a consultation at the practice because of personal preference (they would like to meet the clinician before moving on to a procedure, for example) or because of clinical or social need.

Prior to a consultation, your referral will have been reviewed by the clinician before you are contacted for an appointment. A consultation with the clinician can last between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on your health history and particular condition. The length of appointment will impact the consultation fee, a portion of which is rebated by Medicare.

Consultation appointments are offered for general gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, gastrointestinal cancer screening and management, Barrett’s esophagus, pancreatic conditions (including pancreatic cysts), colon polyps, hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and complex case and condition management.

Patients with particular health profiles, who are over a certain age, on multiple medications, have co-morbidities or may otherwise be considered clinically complex, will need to attend a consultation prior to an endoscopic procedure being scheduled.
